Chronic inflammation: What is it?
Inflammation is the immune system’s natural complex reaction to injury and pathogens. The inflammatory response includes the release of chemicals and antibodies and increased blood flow to the affected area. Inflammation can either be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). Acute inflammation is self-limiting and usually lasts for a few hours to a few days. Chronic inflammation occurs when the inflammatory response persists even after the injury or illness is healed.
Obesity, poor nutrition, inadequate exercise, pollution, and stress can all cause chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation may lead to several chronic diseases , including diabetes, heart disease, metabolic and autoimmune disorders . Managing chronic inflammation correctly through adopting healthy lifestyle, nutrition and supplements can improve well-being and overall quality of life. In the last few years, chronic inflammation has become more widely known, which has led to an increase in supplement consumption.
Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress
The body produces reactive oxygen molecules (ROS) as part of normal cellular metabolism. There is a close link between ROS molecules and inflammation. Immune cells produce ROS to fight infections and injury. The free radicals enhance the secretion of inflammatory molecules and inflammatory mediators increase the expression of ROS. Under normal circumstances, after the immune system eliminates the infection or repairs the damaged tissue inflammation goes away and pro-oxidation/antioxidation balance is maintained. Oxidative stress is caused by an imbalance between ROS (free radicals) production and the body’s ability to counteract or detoxify their harmful effects via antioxidants. Continued oxidative stress can lead to chronic inflammation.
Discover solutions from Solabia – Algatech Nutrition that can help to reduce inflammation:
AstaPure – Natural astaxanthin
Astaxanthin is one of nature’s most potent antioxidant. Its antioxidant activity contributes to balance the inflammatory response. Astaxanthin was shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in various in vivo and in vitro studies both on acute and chronic inflammatory conditions. It was shown to regulate target genes of inflammatory biomarkers.
Consumption of astaxanthin led to reduction in systemic levels of C-reactive protein, a key inflammatory marker. In addition, a pre-clinical study found that AstaPure® reduced smoke-induced inflammatory cell infiltration into the lungs.
AstaPure® natural astaxanthin by Solabia-Algatech Nutrition is derived from the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis, the richest source of natural astaxanthin. AstaPure® is consistent in quality, high in purity, free of contaminants, and produced in accordance with sustainable standards.
BioGlena™-Beta glucans derived from microalgae
β-glucan polysaccharides are touted as nature’s immune-modulator, supporting and balancing optimal natural immunity. It helps the immune system to respond efficiently to pathogens attack.
BioGlena™ is high Source of the Beta-glucan. It is 100% natural whole Euglena gracilis microalgae containing a minimum of 55% linear 1,3 Beta -glucan. The product does not require any extraction process, so it contains no additives or solvents. It is suitable for the entire family to use.
In vitro study demonstrating the ability of BioGlena™, to enhance macrophage (white blood cells) response against pathogens. . BioGlena induced the secretion of IFNγ and TNF- α. IFNγ is a cytokine that activate macrophages to fight viral infections and inhibit viral replication directly. Macrophages release TNF- α as part of an inflammatory response to alert other immune system cells.
FucoVital- An innovative composition comprising 3% fucoxanthin derived from microalgae
Fucoxanthin found naturally in microalgae. Its highly unique structure and chemical properties make it a powerful antioxidant. Fucoxanthin in the form of a dietary supplement may promote metabolic health including management of glucose and lipids levels and liver health.
