The Story of Algatech

Unlocking the potential of microalgae

Algatech was founded in 1998 at Kibbutz Ketura. It was started as a pilot plant to commercialize cultivation techniques developed by Professor Boussiba at Ben Gurion University, a leading microalgae research institute – a relationship the company maintains to this day. Our production facility is located in the Arava desert between the dead sea and the red sea, an ideal location for the cultivation of microalgae thanks to the stable climate conditions in the region, the intense sunlight year-round, and the clean air and land, free from any industrial contaminants or pollutants. We have been striving to unlock the potential of these tiny vital life forms, and our facility is a living example of how it is possible to make the desert thrive in a land not suitable for traditional cultivation – using it to bring life and ecological benefits.

IN PURSUIT OF NEW DISCOVERIES AND INNOVATION

We have an innate drive to unlock potential wherever we find it: not just in these amazing tiny life forms, but in the people who work with us. The Algatech family hails from 15 different countries. Our team consists of multiple PhDs and almost all have graduate or undergraduate level education in fields such as nutrition, chemistry, pharmacology, chemical engineering, and most importantly, all possess a passion for opening up new frontiers.
